SPEEDWAY — A couple rushing their dog to the veterinarian for an emergency surgery were involved in a chain-reaction injury crash that injured four people, including a young child.

Captain Mike Pruitt with the Wayne Township Fire Department said crews responded to the crash in the 6400 block of Rockville Road around 9:45 a.m.

Pruitt says a husband and wife were taking their dog to the vet when they were involved in the 5-vehicle crash. A child and an adult in the Mustang that rear-ended the couple were rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

Two other adults were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the couple with the dog were both checked and released at the scene. Pruitt said he took the wife and the dog to Noah's Animal Hospital in Speedway, but the dog did not survive.

The details surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
