GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Two 11-year-old boys were dragged to the Greenwood Police Departments by their parents over the weekend to confess to thousands of dollars in vandalism at two auto businesses.
“They came in and confessed to all the damage caused at Kenny’s Transmission and Auto Nerd Used Cars,” Greenwood Police Office Courtney Burrello said.
The businesses are located near each other just south Main Street between Market Plaza and Madison Avenue.
Burrello said that while police received reports of vandalism at The Suds drive-in as well, the boys did not confess to that.
At Kenny’s Transmission, manager Ryan Dillman said the preteens did close to $10,000-worth of damage, on first estimate.
“One was a convertible and they completely ripped the top off of it, so the whole top of the car will have to be replaced,” Dillman said. “Every window, every windshield, every side mirror on all those cars.”
Dillman said two of the cars damaged belonged to an employee, and another belonged to a different manager. He said they now plan on selling those cars for junk.
The weekend vandalism was the second such recent incident for Kenny’s Transmission. Dillman said the boys confessed to both incidents at Kenny’s.
“We would hope that whatever outcome the for these kids through the courts, that their parents at least make them come sweep up the glass,” Dillman said.
Burrello said the boys face preliminary charges of vandalism. They will be tried in juvenile court.
