FRANKLIN — A 16-year-old from Greenwood will face adult charges in the shooting death of a 15-year-old and the wounding of a young man.

The Johnson County Prosecutor announced Thursday that Marcus Salatin is charged with murder and criminal recklessness.

Salatin allegedly shot and killed 15-year-old Kashius Davis during an October 30 incident in the Fox Berry Tace neighborhood off Smith Valley Road. A 19-year-old man who was with Davis was wounded.

Indiana law stipulates that a 16-year-old charged with murder will be tried as an adult.

“When you look on the news, more and more frequently you see individuals who resort to acts of violence because of some kind of disagreement with another individual. That kind of response is not acceptable for adults, and becomes even more troubling when you start to see that same pattern of behavior with young people” said Prosecutor Joe Villanueva.

“We will continue to work closely with the Sheriff’s Office in a joint effort to hold Salatin accountable and bring justice to a grieving family," said the prosecutor.

According to information from police and the prosecutor, Salatin allegedly fired four to six shots into a Jeep Cherokee with the two victims inside. The suspect lived nearby and police made a quick arrest.
