HENDRICKS COUNTY — A Hendricks County woman was injured Wednesday morning after she was accidentally shot by her 2-year-old son, police said.

The child found a semi-automatic pistol and shot his mother at about 9:20 a.m. at a house in the 6400 block of West U.S. 36, Hendricks County Sheriff's Office Captain Amanda Goings said.

The 40-year-old woman was transported to an Indianapolis hospital and is now listed in stable condition, Goings said.

The boy's 5-year-old sibling was also in the house and called for help, Goings said. Neither child was injured in the incident.

Goings said the Child Protective Services and Hendricks County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the case.
