INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis father faces a neglect charge after his 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself Saturday night on the east side.
Officers responded to the shooting around 7:30 p.m. at an apartment in the 6000 block of East 21st Street, according to information from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said the boy shot himself with an unsecured weapon inside the apartment. He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital and was reported to be awake and breathing.
The boy's father, who has not been identified, was arrested on a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent, police said.
