Christmas Eve death of 2-month-old Gas City boy ruled a homicide

GAS CITY — The death of a 2-month-old Gas City boy on Christmas Eve has been ruled a homicide.

According to a report from the Grant County Coroner's Office, the coroner along with the Gas City Police Department, Indiana State Police and the Indiana Department of Child Services are investigating the Dec. 24 death of Atlas Kirkland, 2 months.

The coroner's office said Gas City Police were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of West South J Street around 7:55 a.m. Dec. 24 on report of an infant not breathing. The boy's father reportedly told police he woke up and found that his son was not breathing.

According to the coroner's office, police immediately began CPR. Personnel from Marion General Hospital arrived and pronounced the boy dead.

On Wednesday, the coroner's office said the boy's death has been ruled a homicide.
