Cory Woody sentenced to 65 years for murder over $800 debt

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Cory Woody was sentenced to 65 years in prison this week nearly two years to the day after police say he robbed and murdered an Indianapolis man.

Woody was found guilty in August of two counts of murder and one count of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury in connection with the death of 27-year-old Joshua Thomas.

Thomas was found shot and killed inside an SUV on Sept. 25, 2015, in the 4700 block of Crestview Avenue.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an $800 debt Woody allegedly owed Thomas.

Three weeks after Thomas’ death, Woody was found in possession of a firearm during an unrelated arrest. That gun was later determined to match the fired bullet recovered from Thomas’ vehicle.

A Marion County Judge will now determine where Woody will serve his sentence.
