SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- A Shelby County man is facing more than a dozen charges after investigators say they found pornographic images of children as young as 6 months old on his computer.
James Mohler, 31, is charged with downloading and disseminating the images between July 2014 and August 2017. Investigators also learned of at least one encounter in which he had sexual intercourse with an unknown 12 year old female, nearly 12 years ago.
He was arrested at his Shelbyville home on Thursday.
Investigators tracked Mohler through his Microsoft Skydrive account which reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that he had uploaded an image that contained child pornography, according to court documents.
Mohler told detectives that he liked to look up adult pornography and would occasionally come across child photos while he was doing so. He said he would report the images and save them on his computer to make sure they were taken down.
When asked why he kept the images, court documents state that Mohler originally said he didn’t know how to delete them.
Detectives uncovered at least 12 images of children under the age of 12 and another ten images of children over the age of 12 but under 18 years old.
Mohler is charged with 18 counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of child exploitation.
