UPDATE: Danville police now say reports of a man who tried to lure young girls into his vehicle stemmed from a “misunderstanding.”

Police say they spoke to the driver of that vehicle and, after re-interviewing the juveniles and their parents, determined the individual was an acquaintance who was driving a different vehicle than usual.

Danville police thanked the citizens who came together to share the information about the case, and said  there is no reason to believe there is a threat to anyone.

DANVILLE, Ind. -- Danville police are looking for a man who may have tried to lure two young girls into his car in a residential neighborhood Sunday.

Police said they received a report that around 5 p.m. Sunday a black, newer-model, hard-top Jeep Wrangler approached two juvenile females in the front yard of a residence in the Stratford Ridge subdivision.

The girls said the driver of the Jeep – described as a white man in his 40’s – told them to “come over here” and “get in.”

The girls then went inside their residence and the Jeep left the area.

Police were able to capture an image of the Jeep from a home surveillance camera in the area, but were not able to obtain the license plate number.

Danville police said they have increased patrols in the area. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at 317-745-3001.
