INDIANAPOLIS -- A downtown Indianapolis bike messenger is hoping the public can help find the bike he uses to earn his livelihood after it was stolen from a gas station Tuesday night.

Brad Dunn, 22, says he is calling pawnshops and searching Craigslist hoping to find his All-City Mr. Pink road bike that was stolen from the Marathon gas station at Shelby Street and Pleasant Run Parkway North Drive shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

Dunn said he was returning home from a friend’s house when he stopped at the gas station, which he says he does regularly.

“I popped in there for maybe four minutes, three minutes maybe, and came out and it was gone,” Dunn said.

Aside from the monetary value of the bike – Dunn says it would go for around $1,600 - $1,700 – it’s also how Dunn, a bike messenger for Clustertruck, makes his living.

Clustertruck bike messengers deliver food in a 2-mile radius around its location at Pennsylvania and St. Clair streets. According to Dunn, it’s up to the messengers to furnish their own bikes.

“We’re all independently contracted,” Dunn said. “Nothing is provided as far as bags, locks, bikes.”

Fortunately, Dunn says, he has a backup bike left at his house by a friend he can use to continue working in the near-term. Long-term, he’s hoping either his bike will turn up at a pawnshop, or someone will spot it and report it to police.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS. Your call may remain anonymous.
