INDIANAPOLIS — A former lieutenant with the Marion County Sheriff's Office will not go to prison, after pleading guilty Monday to a charge of official misconduct.

At his change-of-plea hearing in Marion County Criminal Court, the two battery charges John Dorsey faced were dropped. He pleaded guilty to official misconduct and was given a one-year suspended sentence.

Dorsey was an 11-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office, assigned to the Sex Offender Registry Unit.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the area of Lafayette Road and West 60th Street to assist with a traffic stop of a person with an active arrest warrant.

At the scene, the man told officers that his arrest was personal.

It is alleged that the man had been in a relationship with the mother of Lieutenant Dorsey's children.

A witness told police Dorsey appeared to have allegedly struck the man between the legs while searching him.

It is further alleged that Dorsey threatened and struck the man while taking him to the Marion County Jail.
