INDIANAPOLIS — Police said a 6-year-old girl was shot and critically wounded at an apartment complex on the northwest side of Indianapolis late Thursday.
According to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, it happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of Oakwood Trail.
Police said reports came in about 9:30 p.m. of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located the young girl who was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children in critical condition. Police said doctors have stabilized the girl and she is expected to survive.
A crime scene was found in the grass near the apartment building. Police said shots were fired into an apartment and one round entered an adjacent apartment. Police said the girl was not an intended target.
