HOWARD COUNTY — The Howard County Sheriff's Office says someone is impersonating a sheriff's captain and soliciting donations for a made-up cause.

The sheriff's office dispatch line received several calls from people Friday night reporting a telephone scam in which someone identifying themselves as Captain Jordan Buckley asked for a donation using gift cards or money transfers, Buckley said.

Buckley said at least one person has fallen victim to the scam.

"Neither myself nor any member of the HCSO will ever contact you via phone requesting money for any reason. This includes donations, warrants, taxes, etc.," Buckley said.

Anyone contacted by the scammers is encouraged to call the Howard County Sheriff's Office at 765-457-1105.

"Please keep your money," Buckley said. "You've worked hard for it."
