INDIANAPOLIS — A woman died Thursday night after being shot on the city's east side, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police.
According to IMPD, officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of East 10th Street at approximately 10:52 p.m. on a report of a personal injury accident. While officers were responding, the call was updated to a person shot.
When officers arrived, they found an adult female with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services transported the woman to an area hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death and will release the victim's name once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
Police say this appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals that took place inside a vehicle when the shooting occurred.
An adult male was detained at the scene but was later released pending further investigation after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
