INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police and officers from the FBI’s Safe Streets Taskforce are investigating the robbery of a bank on the city’s south side Monday afternoon.
The robbery was reported at 1:26 p.m. at the Chase Bank located at 8120 S. Meridian Street, at the intersection with Stop 11 Road.
A bank teller told police she was working when a man walked up to her and stated, “I need bus money.” When she asked him if he was a member of the bank, he handed her a note that stated he was robbing the bank and that he wanted $10,000.
The teller told police she handed the man some money, at which point he said it wasn’t enough. After giving the man more cash, he reportedly fled southbound and entered a silver Subaru or Toyota-style vehicle – possibly an SUV occupied by three-to-four other occupants.
The suspect was described as a black male standing 6’ tall, with a stocky build. He was wearing a hat and glasses.
Surveillance images of the robbery were not immediately available.
