One man is dead after two people shot on Indy's west side

UPDATE: The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department identified Duan Winfrey, 33, as having died in Thursday's shooting.

INDIANAPOLIS — One man is dead and another is in critical condition after both were shot Thursday afternoon on the city's near west side.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Christopher Bailey, officers were called to the 1200 block of North Sheffield Avenue around 3:10 p.m. Thursday on report of two people shot. When officers arrived, they found two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Bailey said both victims were taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. One of the men later died from his injuries. The Marion County Coroner will release his identity after his family is notified.

"Their identities have not been confirmed and the circumstances surrounding what exactly happened here are still unknown at this point," Bailey said.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency was called to process the scene for evidence.

Homicide detectives were also called to the scene.
