IMPD investigating homicide after body found in car on near northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating a death on the city's near northwest side as a homicide after finding a victim inside a burned car Sunday afternoon.

According to IMPD, at approximately 1:16 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of W 29th Street on a report of a death investigation.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male inside a vehicle with injuries consistent with trauma. The vehicle had previously been on fire and extinguished by Indianapolis Fire Department prior to IMPD officers' arrival. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Michael C. Lockridge, a 56-year-old male.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.

The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death. Next-of-kin notification has been completed.
