INDIANAPOLIS — With the governor's executive "stay-at-home" order now in effect, some children may be stuck in unsafe situations they can't control.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is hoping the community will help them by being their eyes and ears when they can't be everywhere at once. Residents are asked to look out for the kids in their communities and alert authorities if you suspect a child may be the victim of abuse or neglect.
To help with that, IMPD says child abuse and neglect calls can be placed to the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-800-5556. The hotline is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. Reports of child abuse or neglect can also be made anonymously.
- An intake specialist will ask for information about the circumstances creating a risk of harm to the child including:
- Who was involved
- What occurred
- When and where it occurred
- The extent of any injuries sustained
- Any other relevant information
Police say you should still call the hotline if you suspect abuse or neglect, even if you cannot provide all of the requested information. If you see a child in imminent danger, do not wait, call 911.
