Man arrested in connection with shooting on I-65 near Indy’s south side

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police troopers have made an arrest after a person was shot during an alleged road rage incident on I-65 near the south side of Indianapolis on Thursday.

On June 29, Indiana State Police dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a man had been shot inside a vehicle on Interstate 65 southbound near Southport Road shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, troopers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot injury. The man was reported to be conscious and alert when he was transported by IEMS to a local hospital.

Investigators believe a road rage incident began on I-65 southbound near Southport Road, leading to a person inside a vehicle pulling alongside the victim’s silver Honda, and firing multiple shots into the vehicle.

Police say at least one of the bullets struck and seriously injured the driver.

The suspect vehicle fled the area before police arrived.

After investigation, police arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting. The suspect faces preliminary charges of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery.

The suspect will be held in jail until formal charges are filed.
