GREENSBURG, Ind. -- A now-former Indiana State Police officer was arrested Thursday on allegations of sexual battery and sexual misconduct with a minor.

Jack R. Hewitt, 54, of Greensburg, Indiana, was arrested shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office. He resigned from the Indiana State Police the same day.

According to ISP, police were notified of the allegations against Hewitt by another law enforcement officer on Aug. 9. As a result of the allegations, an investigation was launched and Hewitt was immediately placed on paid administrative leave.

Hewitt was an eight-year veteran of ISP and was most recently assigned to the Versailles post. The agency said Hewitt had no prior disciplinary history.

As of Thursday evening, Hewitt was being held at the Decatur County Jail. An initial hearing had not yet been scheduled.
