INDIANAPOLIS — An inmate was found dead in his cell at the Marion County Jail early Monday morning.
Kerrington Tompkins, 28, was arrested on July 20 and being held at the Marion County Jail on charges of resisting law enforcement, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of methamphetamine and driving while suspended.
Tompkins was found unresponsive at 3:07 a.m., according to the sheriff's office, and medical attention was immediately provided by jail medical personnel.
Tompkins was transported to Eskenazi Hospital where he later died. His death is being investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Marion County Forensics Services Agency and the Marion County Coroner's Office.
An internal affairs investigation is also being conducted by the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
