BOONE COUNTY — A man in custody in Boone County is accused of trying to swallow his contraband and then spitting it in the faces of the deputies who were working to detain him.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office says the 34-year-old man was arrested for driving with a suspended license and taken to the Boone County Jail. While he was being processed, the man was escorted through the body scanner where jail employees observed an "unidentified object" within his pants.
The sheriff's office says once the man was taken to the changeout area, he was observed pulling two clear baggies filled with a white powdery substance out of his pants and putting them into his mouth. Officers immediately went to detain him and struggled with the suspect until he spit the white substance into the officer's faces.
The inmate was then detained and medics were called in to check him out along with the three Boone County Sheriff's Office employees.
The white powdery substance was field tested and tested positive for cocaine. The three employees and the inmate were all taken to a local medical center as a precaution.
The incident remains under investigation.
The man will likely face additional charges, although those have not been named at this time.
