INDIANAPOLIS — An inmate who escaped from the Hancock County Jail earlier this month is back in custody.
According to a report from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, Tyrell Deshawn White, 22, was arrested Tuesday in Marion County.
Deputies said White was arrested by Hancock County sheriff's deputies and Indiana State Police troopers in the area of 30th Street and Graham Avenue in Marion County. The sheriff's office on Tuesday said White has been returned to the Hancock County Jail.
According to court records, White has been charged in Hancock Superior Court with a level 5 felony charge of escape.
Deputies previously said White is an inmate worker and was taking trash out to the dumpsters behind the jail around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10 when he ran away. Jail officers chased White before losing sight of him. Investigators have said it was likely he had someone waiting for him nearby and drove him out of the area.
White was arrested by Fortville police in July 2020 and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, auto theft, driving while suspended with a previous conviction and providing false information. He was awaiting a trial scheduled to start in March.
