LAKE COUNTY — Indiana State Police arrested a man after a pursuit that at one point reached speeds of 150 miles per hour in a construction zone in northern Indiana.
The trooper initially clocked a Chevy Malibu traveling 103 miles per hour on I-65 near Lowell in a "well posted 55 mile per hour work zone," according to ISP. "Luckily there were no workers present at the time."
The trooper attempted to catch the speeding driver who was passing traffic and driving off the roadway and onto the shoulder area. At one point during the pursuit, the trooper clocked the driver going 150 miles per hour while still in a construction zone.
After a lengthy pursuit, the driver stopped on the shoulder. The 25-year-old told the trooper that he was heading to Chicago to visit a friend in the hospital, but he couldn't provide a name of the friend or hospital where he was going.
The driver was arrested and is facing charges of resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated.
“Click It or Ticket Memorial Day mobilization event is underway and enforcing traffic safety and getting unsafe motorists off the road is a top priority with the busy summer travel season just a few days away," Indiana State Police said in their press release. "If you choose not to wear your seat belt expect a ticket. If you choose to drive impaired you will be arrested. Let’s make our roadways safe for everyone to travel."
