IU issues alert after female student grabbed at campus bus stop

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University issued an alert to students Monday night about an assault reported on campus.

The IU Emergency Management and Continuity office posted to social media around 11:00 p.m. about an assault that occurred on campus near Jordan Avenue and 7th Street.

According to the university, a female student reported she was waiting at the bus stop when a male subject approached her from behind and grabbed her around the neck.

The woman said she screamed and struck the subject with her elbows – drawing the attention of a passerby. The suspect then fled westbound on foot.

The suspect was described as a tall, thin white male in his early 20’s who was wearing a dark blue hat.

The school encouraged students to “trust your instincts” and to call 911 with any information about the incident.
