INDIANAPOLIS -- The leader of an Indianapolis-area heroin and methamphetamine trafficking organization was sentenced this week to 30 years in federal prison.
David McMichel, 33, of Indianapolis, was alleged to have been the ringleader of what law enforcement dubbed the McMichel Drug Trafficking Organization (MDTO).
McMichel, also known as “White Boy,” allegedly ran the drug ring from his home on the west side of Indianapolis – where he was serving a sentence on house arrest for his third felony conviction.
Using a wiretap, investigators said they observed McMichel ordering shootings, saying he had a “list a block long” of people he wanted dead. He also had members of his organization get pictures of the intended targets from Facebook, according to the release.
McMichel and 10 alleged co-conspirators were arrested in September 2015. Investigators seized $160,000 in cash, two ballistic vests, 19 guns and several pounds of heroin and methamphetamine as a result of the investigation.
On Friday, U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler announced that McMichel had been sentenced to 360 months in prison. Following his release he will have to serve an additional five years of supervised release.
