PERU — A 25-year-old Peru, Indiana man faces numerous charges in the death of a toddler.

21-month-old Augustalee Marie Steele died at a Ft. Wayne hospital in October, one-day after Peru Police and firefighters found her not breathing at her home on South Park Avenue. Peru is about 80-miles north of Indianapolis.

According to information from police and the Miami County Prosecutor, the girl died of blunt force trauma.

This week, after a two-month investigation, John Nice, identified as the fiance of the child's mother, was arrested and booked into the Miami County Jail.

Miami Circuit Court records show Nice is facing charges of voluntary manslaughter, domestic battery, aggravated battery, and neglect of a dependent resulting in death. He's scheduled for a December 17 initial court hearing.
