KOKOMO, Ind. -- A man who was wanted for rape in Kokomo died during standoff with police in Louisiana on Saturday night.
Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's department responded to a report of a suspicious subject at a gas station.
Authorities say the suspect died during a standoff from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was later identified as Gary F. Perkins of Kokomo.
Last Tuesday, officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of West Park Avenue in Kokomo to find a victim who said she had been battered and raped by a man she identified as Gary Perkins.
According to the woman, Perkins struck her in the head, knocked her unconscious, strangled her, confined her in a bed and raped her.

A warrant was issued for Perkins and Kokomo police detectives received information Friday that he was in the St. Charles, Louisiana area.
