Man wanted for wife's murder shoots self in police standoff

INDIANAPOLIS — A man wanted in connection with the death of his wife last week shot himself during a standoff with police Monday morning.

According to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 3400 block of West Morris Street in an effort to apprehend Floyd Jones, 62.

A spokeswoman for IMPD said officers came into contact with Jones outside the residence. Officers attempted to speak with Jones in an effort to get him to surrender peacefully. After several minutes, Jones shot himself. He was taken to a local hospital, where he is in critical condition.

Jones is wanted for the March 28 homicide of his wife, DeeDee Jones, 52. Police were called to the 1500 block of South Concord Street on a check the welfare of a person call. When officers arrived, they found DeeDee Jones dead inside the residence. Officers then backed out of the residence and called the SWAT team to respond.

IMPD later identified Floyd Jones as a suspect in his wife's death.
