Marion County deputy back to work after getting shot in leg

INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County sheriff's deputy who was shot in the leg over the weekend has returned to work. 

Sgt. David Clemmons and Deputy Entwan Norris were attempting to stop a robbery at an Indianapolis IHOP early Saturday morning when Clemmons was shot, the sheriff's office said. 

The deputy was shot in the leg and transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in stable condition. He was released from the hospital later that day.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has named Brandon Nickens as the person who shot Deputy Clemmons. Nickens is charged with attempted murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. 

Javentay Chapman has also been charged with attempted robbery resulting in bodily injury and battery by means of a deadly weapon in connection with the robbery.
