Marion girl hospitalized after shots fired into house

MARION — A 7-year-old girl in Marion was hospitalized Saturday night after she suffered a gunshot wound to her right knee when someone fired shots into a house.

The girl was flown to a hospital in Fort Wayne, and her injuries are not life-threatening, according to information from the Marion Police Department.

Marion police responded to a report of gunshots in the 1000 block of W. 17th St. at 6:10 p.m. Saturday. Family members at the house said the girl was inside the home when she was hit in the knee by a bullet that was fired into the house.

The shooting is still under investigation, and detectives are looking for a suspect and motive, the Marion Police Department said.
