Mother tried to hide syringes in son's pocket, police say

MUNCIE — A central Indiana mother is facing neglect charges after police say she tried to hide syringes in her son's empty pockets.

Eaton Police Department officers initially pulled the 31-year-old over on Tuesday for speeding. When a police dog picked up a scent of drugs inside the vehicle and the woman's 10-year-old son was asked to empty his pockets. Inside his pockets was a $20 bill and three syringes. The child told police that his mother had given him the syringes, one which was uncapped.

The woman is charged with neglect and unlawful possession of syringes. The incident remains under investigation.
