NOBLESVILLE — A 62-year-old man is accused of beating a dog so badly that it had to have multiple surgeries and remains in critical condition.

Noblesville Police Department officers were called to the Village Pantry at 710 Westfield Road on April 3 for a report of animal cruelty. Witnesses told police they had seen a man beating and kicking a dog in the parking lot of the business. The witness said the man drove off with the dog just before police arrived.

A short time later, police say they got a call that the same man was possibly at the All-Star Veterinary Clinic in Westfield. They located Theodore Harris Jr, at the clinic with the animal.

After speaking with witnesses, interviewing staff at the clinic and inspecting the dog's injuries, police opened an animal cruelty investigation.

Harris is charged with two counts of cruelty to an animal.

Police say the dog remains at the All-Star Veterinary Clinic where it has already undergone numerous surgeries and remains in critical condition. The dog's care costs are already in excess of $9,000.

The case remains under investigation by the Noblesville Police Department.
