INDIANAPOLIS — One person is dead following a Wednesday evening shooting on the Indianapolis east side.
Police were called to the 2600 block of North Sherman Drive at about 8 p.m. At the scene, a person, identified as 46-year-old Gene Boyd Jr., was pronounced dead, the latest victim in what has been a record year for Indianapolis homicides — with at least 242.
Detectives were looking for any possible witnesses to the crime. A public information officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the death.
Houses line the block where the shooting took place. Police had gathered at the front entrance of one of the houses, although it was not clear whether the victim was shot inside or in front of the house.
This is a developing story and WRTV will have additional information as it is made available.
