One person shot after family dispute involving weapons in Hancock County

HANCOCK COUNTY — One person was shot after a family dispute over weapons in Hancock County, officials said Friday.

According to a report from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, officers were called to the 5600 block of South 500E around 2:22 p.m. Friday on report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, deputies said they found a 20-year-old man who sustained two gunshot wounds and was transported to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. Deputies said the man was conscious, alert and communicating.

According to deputies, there was a dispute between relatives residing at the residence. The other individual involved was identified as a 33-year-old man. Deputies collected multiple weapons and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Deputies said the 33-year-old man has been cooperating with investigators.

The incident remains under investigation.
