INDIANAPOLIS — A traffic stop turned into a brief chase and a SWAT situation at a home on Indianapolis' east side early Tuesday morning.

The situation began when an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for a license plate violation near 10th and Riley streets, according to IMPD Public Information Officer Aaron Hamer.

Hamer said there was a brief chase and the driver pulled over in the 4700 block of 17th Street and ran into a home. Five people who were inside the home eventually came out and were being questioned by police.

The IMPD SWAT team was called to the scene and spent more than two hours attempting to communicate with the person inside.

Around 9:30 a.m. a man came out of the home and was taken into custody. IMPD says the situation ended "peacefully."

No injuries were reported and no other details were released.

It is unclear what, if any, charges the man will face.
