Police investigating 'suspicious death' near Depauw University in Greencastle

GREENCASTLE — Police in Greencastle are investigating the death of a woman just blocks away from Depauw University in Greencastle.

Police were called to the 100 block of East Berry Street around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Arriving officers found Melissa Attkisson, 45, deceased at the scene.

Detectives worked through the night and most of the day securing the area, which was blocked off until Wednesday afternoon.

Indiana State Police and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office are assisting with the investigation, according to the Greencastle Police Department.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out the family and friends of Melissa Attkisson. Detective Huffman will work with Prosecutor Tim Booklwater and other agencies to find the person responsible," the police department shared in a message on Facebook.
