Police make arrest in west side shooting that injured man

INDIANAPOLIS — A 24-year-old man is in custody after a shooting that injured a person Saturday afternoon on the west side of Indianapolis.

Officers were dispatched to the 10 block of Beachway Drive around 4:50 p.m. Saturday on a report of a person who had been shot, according to information from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police found a man who had a gunshot wound across the street in the 5900 block of Rockville Road in a gray SUV. The victim's 6-year-old child was also in the SUV, IMPD said.

The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

After detectives learned the alleged gunman might be driving a Kia Optima, police found the suspect's vehicle and arrested a 24-year-old Indianapolis man after a short pursuit, IMPD said.

The man was booked into the Marion County Jail. RTV6 does not identify suspects until official charges are filed.
