INDIANAPOLIS —A 30-year-old man is dead after a police chase ended in a crash on I-65 Wednesday night.

According to Indianapolis police, a detective near East 21st Street and North Emerson Avenue spotted a wanted aggravated assault suspect driving by in a truck just after 9 p.m. The detective called for backup to pull the truck over.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspect refused and led police on a chase.

While driving north on I-65, officers attempted a precision immobilization technique (PIT) on the truck, but the driver kept going.

Near the 92-mile marker, the truck went off the road, hit a concrete barrier, and went airborne before landing in a ditch and catching fire.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 30-year-old Marco Antonio Pena Morales of Chicago, Illinois.

Police accident investigators are looking into the crash. The chase will also be reviewed by internal affairs, which is standard procedure.

This is a developing story.
