INDIANAPOLIS — As murders in Indianapolis continue at a record pace, two recent killings have caught the public's attention.
Both were on the Downtown Canal. On July 5, 24-year-old Jessica Doty was murdered, and in late June, 14-year-old Curtis White was shot and killed. There has not been an arrest in either crime.

On Wednesday, a Public Safety Walk with Mayor Joe Hogsett and IMPD Chief Randal Taylor will take place on the canal. It begins at 4 p.m. near the Colts Canal Playspace on the east side of the canal between Walnut and St. Clair streets.
You are invited to walk along with the mayor and chief.
The monthly public safety walks were started in 2017 as a way to help build bridges of trust between area residents and the police. The walks also offer a chance for neighbors and business owners to share safety concerns as well as discuss opportunities to build stronger partnerships to address crime.
Wednesday's walk will be the first since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you take part, you're asked to wear a face covering.
Last week, a plan was announced to add new surveillance cameras on the canal walk.
