Scottsburg woman charged in death of 6-month-old girl

SCOTTSBURG — A Scottsburg woman is facing multiple charges stemming from the death of a 6-month-old girl at an unlicensed daycare facility the woman was running.

According to a report from the Indiana State Police, the investigation began on May 30 when a detective and crime scene investigators were called to a Scottsburg address after learning of the death of a 6-month-old girl. The infant was in the care of an unlicensed daycare facility operated by a 38-year-old Scottsburg woman.

Troopers said the woman called 911 when the infant's mother returned from work and the child was found unresponsive after the daycare worker put the infant down to sleep earlier.

The woman who operates the unlicensed daycare facility has been charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a level 1 felony; reckless supervision by a child care provider resulting in death, a level 6 felony and operating a child care home without a license, a class A misdemeanor.

The woman is being held in the Scott County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
