State police investigate after officers shoot suspect near Ladoga

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Troopers from the Lafayette post of the Indiana State Police are investigating after a suspect sought by police on a felony warrant was injured during a shootout late Wednesday near Ladoga.

According to a report from the Indiana State Police, it happened shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 6100 block of East County Road 1200 South near Ladoga. Troopers said officers from the Montgomery County Multi-jurisdictional SWAT Team were attempting to serve a suspect with a felony warrant when the suspect fired shots at the officers.

Troopers said members of the SWAT team returned fire, injuring the suspect. No police officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire, state police said.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was treated by officers at the scene and transported to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.

State police said the names of the officers involved and the suspect are not being released at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
