PIKE TOWNSHIP — A student has been taken into custody after a gun was found in a backpack during an unrelated investigation Wednesday morning.
The Metropolitan School District of Pike Township Police Department were conducting an unrelated investigation on suspected vaping at the high school when they discovered the handgun in the backpack of a student. The handgun was not loaded.
Police took the student into custody without incident and no one was injured.
The school released the following statement to RTV6.
"This morning, during the course of an unrelated investigation regarding suspected vaping, a handgun was discovered in the backpack of a student at Pike High School. Our MSD of Pike Township Police Department took immediate action. The gun was confiscated and the student was taken into custody without incident. "
