CLARK COUNTY — Three people are dead, including a young child, and two others are critically injured after a wrong-way crash involving a suspected drunk driver.
Indiana State Police said they received numerous calls about a White KIA Sportage traveling the wrong way on I-65 just after 9 p.m. Saturday. Before officers could locate the vehicle, the driver turned west onto I-265 and continued in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes.
Just minutes later, dispatchers received multiple reports of a head-on collision involving the same KIA SUV and another vehicle just inside Floyd County.
The preliminary investigation into the crash found that a 31-year-old man from Louisville was driving the KIA on the wrong side of the interstate when he collided with another vehicle. State police say that man was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, his condition is not known at this time.
The driver of the second vehicle, Taylor Cole, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cole's young son was rushed to Norton's Children's Hospital where he later died. The front seat passenger, Lean Renee Onslott, 22, also died at the hospital and her young son remains at Norton Children's Hospital in an unknown condition.
Investigators believe alcohol played a factor in the crash and state police say possible criminal charges may be filed. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
