LAWRENCE, Ind. -- Lawrence police arrested a 17-year-old suspected of holding up a Ricker’s convenience store at gunpoint Thursday morning.

The robbery happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ricker’s located at 9235 E. 56th Street.

Two clerks on duty at the time told police a male entered the store and then displayed a handgun while one of the clerks was ringing him up, demanding money from the cash register.

The clerks described the suspect as a thin, younger-appearing male wearing a dark grey hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

After receiving cash, the suspect fled westward on foot.

A short time later, Lawrence police responding to the robbery observed a silver Chevy Cobalt displaying an expired Indiana temporary license plate leaving the area.

Officers stopped the vehicle and located a 17-year-old subject inside who matched the suspect description.

One of the Ricker’s clerks subsequently identified the 17-year-old as the same individual who committed the robbery. Two handguns were also recovered from the trunk of the vehicle.

The 17-year-old faces a preliminary charged of armed robbery.
