Teen pulled unconscious from burning vehicle after being shot in Beech Grove

BEECH GROVE — A 16-year-old boy was pulled unconscious from a burning vehicle after he was shot in Beech Grove early Sunday morning.

Beech Grove Police Department officers responded to the 400 block of Grovewood Drive for a report of shots fired just after 3 a.m.

When they arrived, officers found a vehicle in the ditch with an unconscious person in the driver's seat. Officers say the vehicle was smoking and eventually caught fire. After unsuccessful attempts to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, officers pulled the driver from the car and found he had been shot.

The driver was later identified as a 16-year-old boy.

An 18-year-old and 16-year-old passengers told police they were riding in the vehicle when it was shot at multiple times, before crashing into the ditch. The two passengers were not injured.

The teen driver was taken to Eskenazi Hospital, his condition is not known at this time.

The shooting and crash remain under investigation by the Beech Grove Police Department.
