INDIANAPOLIS -- Police say an elderly couple are dead after a "mutual suicide" on Indy's south side Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 1400 block of E. Brunswick Avenue around 1 p.m. for a report of two unresponsive people.

When they arrived they found an elderly couple suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives were called to investigate.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers on the scene say they found a note from the couple saying they were failing in health and did not want to die slowly so they were taking their own lives.

The couple was not identified. No other details will be released.
