GAS CITY — The woman accused of killing her stepdaughter and hiding her body in a plastic trash bag for four days has waived her right to an attorney and says she will represent herself in court.

Amanda Carmack is charged with murder, domestic battery and strangulation in the death of 10-year-old Skylea Carmack. Court documents filed Friday detailed Amanda's confession to the crime, saying she told police she choked Skylea with her hand and then tied "something" around her neck. Amanda told detectives she killed Skylea because she was "angry"

Amanda appeared in court for the first time on Monday, telling the judge she would be representing herself in the case. Prosecutor's filed paperwork on Friday saying they planned to seek life in prison without parole.

The court says Amanda has waived her right to an attorney in the case, but she has been appointed "standy council."

Skylea was reported missing on Saturday, August 30. Multiple search crews scoured the area for four days searching for the girl until Amanda admitted to killing her early Thursday morning.

The Grant County Coroner says Skylea died sometime on the evening of Saturday, August 30, and her cause of death was strangulation.

Court documents filed against Amanda detailed how Skylea had been restricted to her bedroom for a week and a half before her death. Her six siblings told detectives that Amanda was "a strict disciplinarian" and she had physically abused them.
