INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police are investigating the death of a woman at the John J. Barton Annex Apartments downtown Thursday morning.
Police were called to the apartment complex in the 500 block of Massachusetts Avenue around 7 a.m. Thursday on a report of a person down.
They arrived to find an unresponsive woman lying in a hallway.
Medics were called and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
As of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, police were calling the case a death investigation.
The apartment complex is one of more than a dozen public housing sites operated by the Indianapolis Housing Agency.
A Call 6 Investigation earlier this year obtained internal reports warning IHA leadership of double-digit increases in crime at several communities, including Blackburn Terrace, Beechwood, Laurelwood, Hawthorne and 16 Park.
