INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis City-County Council Vice President Zach Adamson is denying criminal allegations made against him this week.
Indianapolis police received an allegation of rape against Adamson on Monday. The complainant, a 19-year-old man, claimed the incident happened on Sept. 13, 2015.
Adamson adamantly denied the allegations Wednesday in a phone call with Call 6 Investigates.
“I’ve only recently become aware of accusations against me, which are completely untrue and without merit.
Unfortunately, it appears I’ve become a target of ridiculous accusations. These allegations of impropriety are false. I can’t say that any more strongly.
Until it I resolved, I’ll refrain from further comment and refer all questions to my attorney, Kathleen Sweeney.”
No charges have been filed against Adamson.
Indianapolis police released a brief statement to Call 6 Investigates about the allegations:
“We are aware of an allegation in a police report filed on Monday June 20th for an incident occurring in September of 2015. We are working with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and any public comment will be released by the Prosecutor’s Office.”
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office said it intended to seek a special prosecutor to review the allegations against Adamson.
Adamson, a Democrat, won re-election to his seat in District 17 in November.
